The Indian Scops-Owl (Otus bakkamoena), found in the Indian subcontinent, barely larger than a human hand, is a master of camouflage and survival, blending seamlessly into the bark and branches of its woodland home. Its plumage ranges from a mottled gray to reddish-brown, a perfect disguise against tree bark that makes it nearly invisible during daylight hours. Those distinctive ear tufts and large, intense eyes give it an almost magical appearance, like a creature straight out of a fairy tale.
