The spot-breasted fantail (rhipidura albogularis) is endemic to the Indian subcontinent. True to its name, this species is immediately recognisable by its distinctive spotted breast pattern, featuring dark spots against a white background, and its characteristic fan-shaped tail, which it frequently spreads and wags sideways. What makes this fantail particularly fascinating is its active foraging behaviour – it can often be seen performing acrobatic moves while catching insects, frequently fanning its tail and making short flights to snatch prey mid-air. These birds are typically found in semi-open woodland areas, gardens, and light forests where they construct neat, cup-shaped nests using fine plant fibres, spider webs, and small twigs.
