The Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker

The Fulvous-breasted woodpecker (Dendrocopos macei) is a medium-sized woodpecker species found in South and Southeast Asia. It is approximately 18-20 cm in length. Males have a red patch on the back of the head and their upper parts are black and white with barred patterns. The breast and belly have a distinctive fulvous (tawny-brown) colouration, therefore the name.

The Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker are found in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and parts of Southeast Asia. These prefer wooded areas, forest edges, and gardens. I sighted it in Assam.
